In Belem, acai juice continues to be drunk as it has been for centuries by Indians. In Brazil, it is the taste of the acai juice which remains its biggest selling point. However, athletes, surfers and martial arts students have been quick to realise the nutritional and health benefits of acai juice.

Acai berries (Euterpe Oleracea) are a dark purple colour and 90% of the acai fruit is actually stone; it is only the 10% pulp and skin which is processed into juice. Blended into a smoothie, juice or used as a sauce in cooking, acai has a rich, creamy texture, the taste of which has been described as a cross between blueberry and chocolate.

Acai berries are naturally inherent with the essential fatty acids, omega`s 3, 6 and 9, contains up to 30 times more anthocyanin antioxidents than red wine and are also one of the few fruits which are rich with the antioxidant vitamins C and E which may be beneficial for skin care against the daily elements. Acai juice is frequently used by Brazilian sea front beach juice bars as a cocktail to improve general health and stamina.
